“It will be interesting to see how Abraham throws the industry’s rules overboard in the future." German Press Agency dpa
Born in 1964, Franz Abraham studied philosophy at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, completed a degree in business management. In addition he was one of Germany’s up-and-coming hopes for the Formula 1 series in the 1980s, before the dawn of the Michael Schumacher era.
After a severe road accident, he was forced to quit his racing career and drop his studies in 1987. In the previous year, the music enthusiast and hobby pianist had founded the company ART CONCERTS, which counted among the globe’s most innovate and successful enterprise producing high-quality musical events until 2009.
Because of the unexpected, severe lack of funds resulting from the collapse of the global economy, he had to abandon ART CONCERTS in 2010—even though the saving turn-around was close at hand: involuntarily financed without external investors, drawing on his family’s final financial securities, and relying on his own properties as a safety, Abraham’s project BEN HUR LIVE had come off with a highly successful, promising start. Yet as a consequence of the company’s financial problems, Abraham and his family had reached an impasse: penniless, they had to rely on financial support from friends.
Franz Abraham organized hundreds of concerts and tours with artists such as David Bowie, Lorin Maazel, Wynton Marsalis, Gidon Kremer, Lou Reed, Plácido Domingo, Dave Brubeck, The Three Tenors and The Rolling Stones. In 1992, at the age of 28, he put on the completely new cross-over "Art Projekt" in Munich and in 1996 in Copenhagen, which was "perhaps the grandest and most original music festival of our times" (Norddeutscher Rundfunk).
In 1993 Franz Abraham founded the Königsplatz Open Air, which soon became the largest, most profitable and most ambitious classic open air event in the whole of Europe. With CARMINA BURANA OPEN AIR OPERA in 1995, Franz Abraham pioneered the genre of large, touring open air operas. For over one and a half decades Franz decisively influenced the musical theatre scene and commercial events branch with his own productions - 250 shows with audiences of almost 2 million in 25 countries.
In 2009, fifteen years after his first concept, Franz Abraham realized BEN HUR LIVE, "a production of the century" (The London Times). BEN HUR LIVE broke visitor records in London, Munich, Zurich and Hamburg, attracting 140,000 visitors in just two months.
BEN HUR LIVE was the birth of a new genre of live entertainment.
Since 2012, Franz Abraham has been developing and making ready for market various entrepreneurial concepts.
